Wow , did my humans have a suprise for me this week. On Tuesday in the mail there was this package and it was adressed to me and of course I had my humans open it for me. They laid a new Gizzy quilt on the floor for me and at first I was not sure what to do about it. Monika picked me up and placed me on it and I sniffed it a bit then turned about and sniffed it some more before I settled to relax on it. After I was done Boots decided to try it out. She is smitten with me and I with her.

like the Gizzy quilt though .

Ok so I let her enjoy it for abit and then the humans moved it to the foot of the bed where I settled for a nice long nap. Thanks Millie and Millie's mom.

I love my grizzy it sit on my ponf chair it my most faviort place to nap. My mama put it on the pong chair at first i never just up on it now i snoozze all day and night on it. You see i not a bed sleeper I rather spend the night in my pong on my grizzy. My mama said thats okay cuse another cat used to love his pong too and the pong need a man cat in it. A Gizzy from Parker

This lovely Gizzy quilt arrived November 24, 2008. At that time our computer was down, so we're a bit late (what an understatement!) making this post.

But first and foremost, we want to tell you what a wonderful surprise it was to receive this -- last year. Millie's mom Lynne made this Orange Crush Gizzy to help raise medical funds for Moki. Perfectly Parker won it, but asked Millie's mom to send it to us. Wasn't that sweet? We were thrilled. It was cold in November, December, January, February, and much of March. We could have used another Gizzy. But Jan said, noooooo, not yet, we need to keep it clean and in the original package so you don't forget to post the photos.

We were going to show you how beautifully it was folded and wrapped in lace ribbon, but Jan suddenly decided it was time to start catching up and .... Well, she cut the ribbon and laid out the Gizzy so she could take photos to add to the ones she took when it arrived.

Only, she couldn't find the original photos. Anywhere. Not on the computer. Not on a CD. But...but...but... Her brother painstakenly rescued all her lost photos. Where did they go now?

Nowhere. After a frantic search, she then read her note on the package: Photograph & post to JFF & Lynne's Gizzy blog. Oh, yeah, that's why Jan saved it with the ribbon intact and wouldn't let us use the Gizzy. For 6 months! And it was cold most of those months.! But back then there wasn't any use to take pictures, since we didn't have a computer . Jan says she's sorry, but we're wondering if we can vote her off the computer. (That's a pretty big blooper, Jan!)

Dear Mom Lynne and Millie,

Thank you for our beautiful Gizzy Quilts! They arrived this afternoon and Kipling immediately claimed both of the quilts. (see photo) I reminded him that he had to share with the other kitties so he suggested that they (there's nine other kitties) could share the orange Gizzy with him but the purple was reserved for his exclusive use. (sigh) I will have to talk to him again.

We got something very special today. Darling Millie sent us a beeuteeful Gizzy quilt! We have been quite well behaved about it. When mom opened the package, we all took turns sniffing the good smells. But in the end it looks like Isis has put the major claim on it. She hasn't moved off it for 6 hours so far!

Triple Play!

We went to my MIL's house after dinner last night to deliver the beautiful Gizzy Quilts for Star and Rufus. Of course, step one was to "find the cats" ~ they are so used to living with just one person that they're extremely absent whenever anyone else is around (under the bed is their preferred hiding spot).

Took a little while to explain the 'Millie Magic' factor to MIL ~ she just couldn't get her head wrapped around why I, as a quilter, would send away for kitty quilts...

This is Star, swaddled in her Gizzy Quilt (not a happy kitty at this point).

However, after about 30 minutes and a few kitty treats strategically placed at the center of her Gizzy Quilt, Star did venture forth!

Meanwhile, DH had captured Rufus ~ this is how Rufus spends his evenings, curled up against MIL on the couch (reportedly, when we are not there, she has one cat on each side) ~ now Rufus can enjoy his Gizzy Quilt and get his ears scratched...

We had given our Angel her Gizzy Quilt just before we went over to MIL's house ~ this is where she was when we left and she hadn't moved a whisker when we came home. Angel adores her new Gizzy Quilt! She was curled up in it again this morning before I left for work ~ awesome!

Well, it would seem that I am late! It's only been 4 months that I've been enjoyin' the most comfortable bit o' cotton n' color a fella could have and I've neglected to properly thank the ever-crafty Millie and her mom!
Not only does it match my furs and compliment my Staff's decor, but it has a little Eau de Millie on it, which I sniff periodically to remind me of the gentle paws that helped create such a comfortable quilt.

Mom did not tell us to expect something in the mail so we were really surprised to see a package from Millie and her Mom. Of course we had to open it right away. Just look at our beautiful Gizzy quilts! They are perfect for our home and for us!

We all love them both but Jemima has claimed this one as her own. She likes to be wrapped up in it because it helps keep her nice and warm.

She also likes to sleep on top of it. See how the colors match our walls? I think here Jemima was ready for the clicky flashy box to stop going off.

Ruckus claimed this Gizzy right away too. Here you can see her telling the rest of us to back off!

Do you see the beautiful peachy colored blocks of these quilts? They are really brighter than the pictures show. The color is called Firewater and it exactly matches the color of the walls in the diningroom that is right next to the livingroom. Mom did not get any pictures of the quilts in that room because we would not let her move them!

Zeke and Sushi and I, Tiger Lily, have all had turns on the quilts too but Mom has been too slow to take pictures. Maybe we will let her catch us with her clicky flashy box sometime but I decided not to wait until then to post the ones we do have.

The Furry Bambinos Love Their Quilts!

Mommy ordered us Gizzy Quilts as a special Christmas gift. Mommy asked us what our color preferences were, and then she contacted Millie's Mom, Lynne, about making the Gizzy Quilts. Millie's Mom is furry talented indeed!

When the quilts arrived, of course Panda Bear and I (Padre) had to sniff the box:

Chance Bond Loves his Gizzy

After a very long journey from Ohio to Pennsylvania, Chance arrived at his forever home with a present already and waiting for him in the mail. A lovely Gizzy Quilt for him to snuggle on while he got the well deserved rest he needed. It was love at first sniffy.

When getting to know his new woofie brother, he always ran to hide with his quilt whenever he got scared. When he started to heal and climb up on things, the quilt found it's way to the couch in the kitty room.

This was his very favourite napping spot until just recently the Vet declared him healed. Even now that he is better, he still loves the comfort and security of his gizzy quilt. So far it is the only snuggle blanket he wants to sleep on and not play with.

Thank You soo much for the beautiful job you did on his quilt. As you can see by the pictures he absolutely adores it and I don't know what I would have done for him without it. I just know it's what made him feel better when he was still healing from his injury.

Jan's Funny Farm Surprise

Many of you already know the secret of the package that arrived at Jan's Funny Farm Monday. Poppy Q and her mom conspired with Millie and her mom to send 2 flying quilts to the Funny Farm.

Now we have 3 matching quilts. What a wonderful surprise. How did these kitties and their moms manage to keep this secret for a whole month? Buddy can't keep a secret for ten minutes. But he's a dog, so that doesn't count.

We were all excited when our Gizzy quilt arrived and we want to share some of our photos with you. Isn't it beautiful? In our favorite fall colors too.

Things got rather hectic as we all wanted to check out the new quilt and a traffic jam ensued. Percy is checking it out below and Rusty is waiting his turn.

Of course, the dogs were jealous! So we let Merci take a test rest on it, before reclaiming it.

Here's Crystal. He got to try it out first and he liked it so much he kept coming back for more turns. As he rolled on it, he kept mumbling, "I love my Gizzy quilt." But it isn't his; it's ours. And we all love our Gizzy quilt.

We got a special package from Millie and her mommy almost 2 wks ago! Because mommy was preparing to go out of town, she didn't give us this special package until yesterday.

When mommy opened up the package for us, we were so excited. It's GIZZY QUILTS!!! We were so happy! We each had our own quilt, which we immediately took possession of. Donny and I immediately claimed our respective quilts. We loved the pretty colours on both, coz they matched our eyes.

Ruby, Diesel, Roscoe, Freya, and Ziggy

We all love our Gizzy quilts - and they flew a long way - all the way to New Zealand. We are a family of 4 Maine Coons living with big sister Ruby who keeps us all in line. We don't have a blog yet (Mum's too busy, but we are working on it ...). It's been winter here, so having the quilts to snuggle up in has been wonderful. And having them on the chairs stops visitors getting covered in cat furs when they sit down! We all think Millie's mum is just so clever and we have ordered the Halloween Gizzy - hope we got in first! The photos show the quilts separately, and us modelling them, so you can see how well they match our furs. Without further ado - introducing:

Ruby - I'm the oldest (8 years). I had a beautiful ginger brother but he went to the bridge when I was only 2, so mum who loves gingers and saw some Maine Coons at a cat show was smitten, so that's how Diesel got to join the family.

Diesel - I'm 6 1/2 years old and a BIG boy - around 9 kg which is about 20 lbs. Maine Coons were still quite rare in New Zealand when Mum got me, but she was so impressed with my looks and my lovely nature, she couldn't resist getting one (or three!) more.

I'm Roscoe (silver grey tabby), and that's my sister Freya (red-shaded silver) below. We're 6 years old. Freya says sorry for the photo of her on the quilt - but she is shy, and it was hard getting her to pose. You can see me and the baby of the family, Ziggy, looking in through the glass doors.

Hi, I'm Ziggy, and I've just turned 2. I have a lot of growing to do (Maine Coons don't fully mature until 3 to 4 years of age) but I don't think I'll end up quite as big as Diesel. That doesn't stop me trying to rassle him all the time though. He's a very tolerant big brother; if he's had enough he just sits on me!

I love love love our Gizzy Quilt! I'm really glad that it fits perfectly in our Poang Chair and the three of us can all snuggle up at once. Usually its just me and Latte during the day.

Gizzy Quilts are so comfy that I get sleepy just touching ours. The quilt is really more mine because it has squares of a coffee theme and the whole back is the coffee fabric. It doesn't say "Latte" but it does say Mocha and have coffee beans and stuff. It is the best place to nap in the house!

Of course I love our Gizzy, especially in its permanent home on our Poang Chair. It fits perfectly and when guests come over the Woman just moves it (and our fur). The colors match me very well and its comfy enough I even let Kaze snuggle sometimes. Mostly in the evenings Latte curls up with me and we have bath/nap time together. Our Gizzy Quilt is so perfect for us!

I love, love, love my Gizzy quilt. My mom has placed it right by one of the huge windows in our living room, where it gets the afternoon sun. I love to lie on my Gizzy quilt and feel the warm sun on my skin, or sit on it and watch birdies outside.

I'm gonna let Mom tell you about her idea for the Holiday Gizzys. Take it away Mom...

"As the Bizzy for Gizzy quilts grew to be a phenomenon, I realized that many cats would like "Holiday Gizzys" and that I could be deluged with orders for Christmas. Since I already have a demanding job, and the quilts take a big chunk of my remaining free time, I tried to think of a way to make Holiday Gizzys that would be fair to the cats who wanted them, yet provide me with enough time to enjoy the holiday season with my family, free of the stress of a drop-dead delivery deadline.

"Fortunately, retailers offer Christmas fabric very early in the year. Making a fixed number of quilts, alerting the blogosphere of their number, price, and sale date ahead of time seemed to me the fairest way to do it."

Holiday Gizzy Quilt Plan

1. There will be 20 quilts only.

2. The size & construction of the Holiday Gizzy Quilts will be the same as now: 24” square, 100% top quality cotton fabric on the top and bottom with fleece in the middle. As usual, the quilts are machine washable and dryable.

3. The Holiday Gizzy quilts will be in the traditional Christmas colors of Red, Green, Gold and White. There will be no predominantly blue or purple fabrics, no religious themes, no Santas, no cats or dogs, and no "novelty” designs. I feel this will make the quilts timeless and have wide appeal. And -gasp- they can be used as woofie quilts also!

4. Photographs of each of the finished Holiday Gizzys will be posted on the Bizzy for Gizzy blog as they are completed so you can see them ahead of time.

5. They will be sold first-come, first-served.

6. No pre-ordering. No waiting lists.

7. Orders will be limited to two Holiday Gizzy quilts per email address per 24-hour period. This way all cats that want a quilt will have the opportunity to get one.

8. The Holiday Gizzy quilts go on sale no earlier than Sunday August 5, 2007. The exact sale date will be announced two weeks ahead of time. My original idea was to start selling the quilts on November 1, but so many cats expressed an interest in them now, I have decided to make them available sooner. Information about how to purchase a Holiday Gizzy will be posted here and my Darling Millie blog on that day.

9. Nobody gets to choose. I'm going to package the Holiday Gizzys up the day before they go "on sale." When an order comes in, I will grab a bag, slap a label on it and ship it out. Even I won't know which quilt will go where.

10. When they're gone, they're gone.

11. There will be no custom "Christmas" quilts. And I will not promise "Christmas Delivery" for any other quilt. Women have too much to do at the Holidays already.

12. Payment will be through Paypal only (to avoid the "check is in the mail" syndrome). You don’t need a Paypal account to pay through Paypal. They can take your credit card or they can suck money right out of your checking account. And they have “e-checks.” It’s safe and secure.

13. As of July 1, 2007, the price for a Gizzy quilt has increased to $45 each. I have really been agonizing over this. The truth is the quilts take far more than 2 hours to make, and 100% cotton fabrics now routinely sell for $10.00/yard.

14. The price for a Holiday Gizzy Quilt is $52.50 USD each and includes US Domestic Priority Mail shipping and a small handling fee. International shipping will be extra.

15. Since I make the quilts, I make the rules, and can bend or change them as I see fit.

OK, so Mom's cut all the strips into blocks and now she is playing with them, designing quilts.

There are 21 different fabrics, cut into over 500 pieces. With all that selection, it should be easy, right?
Uh, no.

If Mom uses every single piece, she could make 24 quilts, but she says that won't happen. For one thing she just found a strip that was cut wrong, meaning each of the nine blocks from that strip is unusable. Oops. Make that 23 quilts. Maybe.

Holiday Gizzys - Getting Started

Mom's finally started on the Holiday Gizzy Quilts. Here is a picture of all the fabric. The candy cane fabric on the left, and the red and silver fabric on the right are two of the fabrics Mom will use for the backs of the quilts.

All the fabric has to be ironed before it is cut into strips.
Here, some fabric is being cut.
After all the strips are cut, they are matched with another color.
Here everything has been matched and is waiting to be sewn.
Here are all the strips, sewn into pairs, then ironed. There are over 60 pairs of strips. They took about two hours to sew and another two hours to press.
Now these will be cut into blocks. Later, those blocks will be arranged into quilt tops. Mom thinks this next step will take a few days. She won't design any quilts until all the blocks are cut. She estimates there will be over 400 blocks when she is finished cutting.

She also says her shoulder will be really sore.

Today Mom came home and said "Guess what, guys?"

We looked at each other and back at Mom.

"Your Gizzy quilt came!"

She laid it down for us and we were instantly rolling, sniffing, and otherwise loving our wonderful quilt.

Perfect 3-Quilt Landing

All three beautiful Bizzy for Gizzy quilts have landed in Bellingham, WA. Royal purple for Maddie, Bright yellow to contrast against Kona, and Gorgeous green for Wiley.

Maddie took about 30 seconds to curl up and start napping on hers. She knows the royal colors, and that they are meant for her.

Beautiful black Kona dozing on his quilt. His yellow quilt is exceptionally awesome. I should find a picture with his face up and eyes open. He and Bill (see April 12) look like siblings!

And here is Wiley relaxing on her green quilt. Of course her eyes are closed here, but they match the quilt.

This was what our bed looked like this morning as I was leaving for work. Two happy quilt kitties. Maddie was on hers twice this morning after we moved it next to the fireplace, but every time I grabbed the camera, she walked off!

A huge, warm thank you, trills, and purrs to Lynne, Jasmine, and Millie. I can't tell you how special these quilts are and how much I appreciated your patience. Your caring shines through. Someone else may have just been "making another quilt". You, however, made our kitties' quilts. There is a difference and it shows in the final results.

So, you can see my lovely Bizzy for Gizzy Flying Quilt all by itself. Look at all those beautiful fabrics....and blue to highlight my eyes! Then I had to sniff it.....someone got there before me to inspect it, I can tell! Then I had to rub my scent on it to officially make it mine! I made Meowm take that last picture of me cause I was saying a big Thank You to Lynne and Millie for my wonderful quilt!

These three quilts will be flying to Maddie, Black Kona and Wiley. Their Mom asked if we could do something to connect the three quilts together. If you click the picture to biggify it, you can see there is one fabric that is in all three quilts. It is a fabric with multi-colored cats.

I have a confession to make. If I could keep just one quilt of all the Bizzy for Gizzy quilts Mom has made, I would keep the Yellow one.

This is Sadie and Speedy enjoying their quilts right "out of the box" as they say. They have since made them their own with a nice coating of their hair. These pictures just don't do these quilts justice, they are beautiful. Next we have Zippy enjoying hers so much that she didn't even notice that Speedy was standing right next to her (this is a big deal). She to has made her quilt into her favorite place to lay. Hi Everyone. My name is Edison. I live in NJ with four other cats: Dolly, Smudge, Clara and Nosey. Here I am on the kitty quilt my Momma ordered.

Isn't it beautiful? Momma particularly likes purple and green. Dolly was very excited when our quilt first came. So excited she yakked up a hairball right on the nice new quilt. Gross! As you can see from the picture, the quilt washes and dries beautifully.

I'm putting a closer upper picture of me in bc I want Millie to get a good look at me. She and I have a lot in common. We're about the same age. We're black and white. We both live with older kitties. We're both strays...I was living in a pipe in an electric supply company's outdoor stockyard. A pipe! Without any kitty momma or littermates! Oh, yes, I'm a scamp, just like Millie. And I have beautiful bedroom eyes...

So, Millie, if you don't mind a long distance relationship, I'm your guy!

Tucker's Amazing Technicolor Flying Quilt

When the man in the blue shorts delivered the box to Tucker's house, it was snowing and slushy. He didn't want to climb the stairs, so he tossed the box up to the landing. But it fell off, and when Tucker's Mom got home from her day hunting, the box was on the ground in a big puddle, soaking wet. She was angry, and thought the quilt would be ruined.

But as any kitty who has received a kitty quilt so far knows, they are wrapped in plastic to keep them nice and clean while they fly. So the quilt inside was in perfect condition. Tucker was a little wary of the quilt at first, but as you can see, he loves it now.

Here is what mine mombean said about my new quilt:

"The quilt is much more beautiful in person... It feels like a tropical evening. With blocks showing ferns and bamboo out lined in gently shimmering copper thread, broad green leaves, woven grassmat looking blocks, splashes of big red flowers outlined in gold thread.... there is even a leopard peaking out. Blocks of gold and green, some squares look like pebbles underwater, and with an ice cold Martini and a fortune cookie for good luck you know it is paradise."
Here is what I say:
It is good for sleeping, napping, snoozing, dreaming and just hanging out until its time to eat, mooch a treat or lap sit. I have already covered it with my ginger and white fur, which really is the only improvement it needed. Its big enough for 2 so I bring a toy with me.

Daisy's beautiful PINK quilt!

Here is my very beautiful pink quilt. It is my favorite color! And it is perfect for lounging in the sun.

And, when I am ready to play, I like to use my quilt for a toy. When I get too rough, my Mommie says "Daisy-No-No!" because she does not want me to hurt my quilt. Do not worry, I am taking very good care of my beautiful quilt!

Hi! It's me, Millie! So many cats have asked for kitty quilts and Junior suggested a place to show them off, so I have created this blog. Cats can tell their kitty quilt stories and post pictures of themselves enjoying (I hope!) their quilts.

I'll start the ball rolling with a picture of this quilt. It doesn't have a cat yet, but Mom may have a cat in mind for it. It's got a lot of yellow and some nice greens.
